ADOPTIONPLAN ECASSEF

What does this plan mean ?

You will become godfather or –mother (padrino or madrina) of a child, a youngster or a young grown-up.
With your financial support this child in Ecuador will get an opportunity to go to school:
Basic school, high school or exceptionally higher education.

          Who are the godchildren ?
  • 85% domestic (also called indigenas or Kichwa-indians) – 15 % mestizos (a mix between white and indian)

  • Children who are supported for the basic school come mainly from one parent families
(unattached mothers or when one of the parents has died)

  • Youngsters who get support for high school, come from families who do not have the financial resources to afford these studies
(too low income, no steady job, unemployed, , high child charge,...).

  • Youngsters who participate in the adoptionplan, did never get the opportunity to study in the past and still do want this
because they want to mean something for their community (in the area of education – leadership)

How does the selection in Ecuador take place ?

  • A preceding conversation will be helt between a local employee of ECASSEF who also speaks Kichwa
(the local language) with the parents of the candidate to find out if we are dealing with a motivated candidate.

  • The conditions to receive a study allowance will be discussed:
the student must daily go to school, do his utmost, bring in interim reports and write at least two letters to the godparents:
one in the beginning of the school year in which the student tells more about himself and the family he or she comes from
and a second letter at the end of the schoolyear.
These letters will be entered into a computer in Spanish, translated in English or Dutch and (if required) mailed to the godparents.

  • On top of that, the parents sign a “Acta de Compromiso”, a kind of contract, in which they promise to send their child to school
and not to use the money of the study allowance for different purposes.

  • The youngster (12 years and older) also signs this contract and promises to cooperate with the community work.

How does the contact between the godparents and the godchild take place ?

  • The godparents receive at least two personal letters from their godchild, translated in English or Dutch (if required).

  • When the godparents mail back a letter, ECASSEF will take care of the translation into Spanish for the Ecuadorian family.

  • The godparents receive a description of each report.

  • We take some digital pictures from the godchild and his/her family
and send these to you with the question to return pictures (250Kb max because of internet speedlimitations) of the godparents to us to give to the godchild.

How can you participate in this plan ?
